Trade-related analysis on poultry imports from USA
Genesis has become an important source of independent analysis and advice to the South African Poultry Association (SAPA) and, through these engagements, also to decision-makers in South Africa’s International Trade Administration Commission (ITAC), the Department of Trade and Industry (the dti) and the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (DAFF).

Financial model sets new mobile termination rates
‘Termination rates’ are the prices telecommunications operators pay each other to terminate calls originating on each other’s networks (for example, when an MTN customer calls a Vodacom customer, MTN pays a termination fee to Vodacom). For a variety of pro-competitive reasons, regulators around the world set these rates equal to the costs operators incur to provide termination services to each other.

Environmental governance in mining is evaluated
Genesis Analytics and Digby Wells Environmental were contracted by the Department of Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation (DPME), in partnership with the Department of Environmental Affairs (DEA), to conduct an implementation evaluation of environmental governance in the mining sector. The purpose was to assess the relevance and effectiveness of environmental legislation in mining and the implementation in achieving its objective.

Expert evidence in dispute between Neotel and Broadband Infraco
Genesis was contracted by Neotel, South Africa's second fixed-line operator, to provide expert economic evidence in a commercial dispute between Neotel and Broadband Infraco, a state-owned supplier of fixed-line infrastructure. The project team focused on the quantification of the financial amount claimed by Broadband Infraco from Neotel, which involved a determination of market-related wholesale rates for national long-haul routes in South Africa.

Expert opinion in abuse of dominance complaint
Genesis was commissioned to provide expert economic evidence relating to a complaint brought by the Fair Competition Commission of Tanzania (FCC) against the Tanzania Cigarette Company (TCC). In the complaint, it was alleged that TCC engaged in an abuse of dominance in relation to a new entrant, and that it then illegally acquired the allegedly successful entrant.
