Digital public infrastructure
Overview
We focus on digital public infrastructure as the critical lever for unleashing a wave of digital development in African nations, transforming the effectiveness of critical public services.
While technology holds significant potential, it has not yet delivered on its promise. Foundational digital capabilities - such as sending payments, verifying identity and exchanging information - remain siloed. This has led to persistent digital exclusion, resulting in uneven impacts and white elephants. It has not adequately protected people in the Young World from digital inequality, cybersecurity threats and other challenges.
Genesis is at the forefront of a new wave of thinking about technology in the Young World. Our approach leverages shared infrastructure thinking. This moves beyond isolated digital pilots that are designed, developed and deployed in silos.
We work with governments, technology providers and international development funders to catalyse the building of whole-of-society digital public infrastructure (DPI) including digital ID, payments and data exchange. This paradigm shift is as much about people, politics, funding and policy as it is about technology.
Genesis brings a unique set of capabilities to accelerate the design, testing, implementation and scaling of DPI technologies across the Young World. Our approach is locally led and implementation driven.
As such it leverages our experience in digital economy strategy, end-to-end data management, human-centred design, and digital policy and regulation, among others. We have combined our digital capabilities with deep expertise in sectors such as healthcare, education and social protection.
Our non-technical competencies further reinforce our position. These competencies are marked by a proprietary problem-solving methodology, a proven track record in managing large donor-funded projects, and a knack for fostering collaboration through stakeholder convening and joint solutioning.
