    Importance of defining ESG, establishing good governance

    While environmental, social and governance (ESG) has risen in prominence globally, the concept has become too broad, opening it up to uncertainty and criticism, Genesis Analytics partner Ryan Short said in a keynote at this year’s ESG Africa conference, on October 1.

    Hemp among 7 industries to keep Mpumalanga's economy growing after coal shutdown

    The decommissioning of coal power stations will have a significant impact on Mpumalanga's economy and employment. But expanding existing industries like citrus and tourism and developing new ones like hemp and sustainable aviation fuels can create thousands more jobs, a new report shows.

    The research, commissioned by the Presidential Climate Commission (PCC) and conducted by Genesis Analytics, was released on Wednesday afternoon. It looks at employment creation opportunities in Mpumalanga to be realised by 2030 - which will be of importance as coal power stations shut down affecting jobs in related value chains - such as mining and transport.

    Zambia makes progress in implementing GBF Target 15

    BIOFIN Zambia hosted a workshop in Lusaka to discuss the preliminary findings and the potential impact of nature-related risks on the Zambian financial system. 

    The workshop took place at a time when Zambia is grappling with one of the worst droughts in its history, emphasising the urgent need to address the intersection between environmental change and financial stability.

    Women still facing many challenges in the workplace

    While some strides have been made to increase the participation of women in business, gender parity is still way below the level it should be in the country, as is women’s participation in leadership roles.

    This was highlighted by speakers during Creamer Media’s Women in Business webinar, held on August 21 2024, and facilitated by Genesis Analytics partner Lael Bethlehem.  She pointed out that while some progress had been made, women still faced considerable challenges and barriers in the workplace and society.

    Namibia enhances connectivity with Equiano subsea cable

    Namibia took another step in enhancing internet connectivity with the inauguration of its Equiano Cable Station and the activation of its segment of the Equiano subsea cable.

    The Equiano cable, supported by Google, connects Namibia to Europe via Portugal and other parts of Africa through Cape Town and Johannesburg.

    Genesis to review social protection budgeting in Virgin Islands

    The Ministry of Health and Social Development has contracted Genesis Analytics to conduct a Fiscal Space Analysis to assess the current budget for social protection in the Virgin Islands.

    Acting Permanent Secretary, Ms. Tasha Bertie said the analysis will receive funding and technical support from the UNICEF Office of the Eastern Caribbean and will look at any potential opportunities that may exist to mobilise additional resources for the expansion of the Public Assistance Programme.

    New Nairobi office to unlock value in the Young World

    Genesis Analytics has hit a new landmark in East Africa with a team of 50 ready to unlock value in the Young World.

    To accommodate its growing staff in Kenya, the firm moved into new offices in Nairobi this month. Their East Africa director, Betty Maina, cut the ribbon on Wednesday night in Westlands with chair and founder Stephan Malherbe to officially open the office.
