Supporting learning, accountability and communication in human development.
Understanding what works and why in human development is not straightforward. Human development systems are complex in themselves and interact with other complex systems. This creates unpredictability: it is by no means certain that what has worked to improve human development outcomes in one time and place will work in another.
However, rigorous and contextual analyses of human development programmes can help improve outcomes. Working with our Evaluation for Development practice, we help human development clients to conduct monitoring and evaluation for the purposes of learning what works and why, of accountability for public or private funding, to take a note of and learn from failure, and to identify and celebrate success.
Projects
Assessing impact of family planning programme for Kenyan girls
Genesis was contracted to conduct a rapid impact assessment of the Choice for Change (C4C) family planning programme in Kenya targeting adolescent girls. Choice for Change is a CIFF-funded initiative, though implemented through Marie Stopes Kenya (MSK), IPAS and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).
Rockefeller looks to new digital skills for Africa's youth
Genesis was awarded a two-year grant by The Rockefeller Foundation to serve as monitoring and evaluation (M&E) partner to their Digital Jobs Africa (DJA) initiative, which was set up in response to the challenge of widespread youth unemployment in Africa.
Assessment of youth employment project in Bosnia, Herzegovina
Genesis Analytics was contracted to conduct a value assessment of the MarketMakers monitoring and results measurement (MRM) system. Key to this assessment was to establish which MRM activities were high or low value for money, given their estimated benefit compared with the investment required, and whether it was worthwhile for MarketMakers to become fully compliant with the DCED Standard.
Harambee mid-term Evaluation
Harambee is an organisation that addresses knowledge and skills gaps among unemployed young people in South Africa and aims to link them to entry-level job opportunities. Having placed more than 10 000 young work-seekers in employment in three years, Harambee has built an effective model that provides unemployed youth with access to job opportunities.
