  • Project name:

Advancing Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights within Universal Health Coverage in Asia-Pacific

Building on a 2021 review, Genesis was contracted by the United Nations Population Fund to assess the integration of Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) rights and services into the ongoing Universal Health Coverage (UHC) expansion efforts in the Asia Pacific region.

Through case studies of 10 countries, this assignment explored the impact of political and economic crises on SRH financing, service provision modalities and procurement, availability of commodities and access to health insurance.

UHC has gained traction in the post-2015 agenda and is recognised as a central instrument for the adequate provision of SRH services. It is the only health goal that integrates all aspects of the right to health.

Several countries in the Asia Pacific region are making significant progress towards providing access to essential health services and protection against financial hardship. However, UHC cannot be achieved without adequate SRH rights.
