Karin Sosis

Principal (Climate Finance and Economics)

Karin Sosis is a principal in the Climate Finance and Economics practice. She is based in Kenya.

She is a climate change and energy specialist who works on African renewable energy markets and policy. As a technical expert and project leader, she has delivered field research, project management, community engagement, policy development and market analysis assignments in more than 20 African countries, working with energy sector stakeholders across senior levels of government, the private sector, donors and civil society.

Karin’s focus is on market and policy solutions to drive an urgent and equitable clean energy transition. This includes work on mini-grids and stand-alone solar, off-grid energy financing, innovative consumer financing, productive uses of electricity, biomass cookstoves, carbon finance, agroforestry and climate-smart agriculture, energy efficiency and green subsidies.

Prior to joining Genesis, Karin consulted independently for clients including the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office; the Dutch entrepreneurial development bank FMO; the US Agency for International Development; the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet; the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency; the Global Off-Grid Lighting Association; the International Finance Corporation; the African Development Bank; the World Bank; the Clean Cooking Alliance; and the Stichting Nederlandse Vrijwilligers. Before this she led the Clean Energy Advisory team at African Solar Designs, a Kenya-based renewable energy consultancy.

Karin has a master’s from the London School of Economics and Political Science (UK), and a bachelor’s degree from Duke University (USA).
