John Mwati Gichanga

Analyst (Climate Finance and Economics)

John Mwati Gichanga is an Analyst in the Climate Finance and Economics practice at Genesis Analytics, and is based in Kenya.

He works at the intersection of climate finance, green growth, and economic policy, supporting governments, development finance institutions, and development partners to integrate climate considerations into economic policy, investment strategies, and regulatory frameworks. His work focuses on economic analysis, research, and policy advisory aimed at enabling low-carbon and climate-resilient development pathways.

At Genesis, John has contributed to multi-country projects assessing green jobs and green growth opportunities in Nigeria, Kenya, South Africa, and Jordan. He has also worked on the World Bank's carbon market development project in Botswana and the agri-MSMEs development for jobs (AMD4J) project, an African Development Bank initiative in Ethiopia.

Prior to joining Genesis, John worked as a Business Analyst in the Risk Advisory practice at Deloitte, where he also supported institutions with climate and sustainability engagements.

John holds a master's degree in Economic Development from the University of Cape Town, a BA in Economics from the University of Nairobi, and a certificate in Design Thinking from the Hasso Plattner School of Design Thinking Afrika at the University of Cape Town.
