Supporting the successful execution of the G20 in South Africa and beyond

  • Focus Area:

    Health

  • Area of Expertise:

    Health financing and Systems Optimisation
    Infectious diseases and pandemic preparedness

  • Client:

The South African Presidency, The National Department of Health TB Cluster

  • Countries:

    South Africa

  • Date:

    August 2025 - June 2026

  • Project name:

[G20 SA] Support to SA Presidency for G20 Implementation

Through a flexible call-down mechanism, Genesis acts as a responsive implementation partner, bridging the gap between global strategic priorities and local operational needs. Through this investment from the Gates Foundation, we contributed to the success of the G20 as a global platform on critical issues related to health, digital infrastructure, inclusive growth, and more. Our work with the Presidency has continued beyond the G20.

We provide adaptive technical and operational support across two critical high-level work streams:

● Strengthening state capacity for the G20 Presidency: We provide critical operational support to the Office of the Presidency to coordinate G20 events, including the Leaders’ Summit and Social Summit, in addition to ongoing technical capacity. This includes the deployment of specialised technical expertise to ensure these high-profile events meet global standards. We’ve also deployed the role of Head of Public Administration, which will continue to support the Presidency beyond the G20. Mildred Nkopane (Head of Office: The SA Presidency) highlighted our support in deploying a Protocol Training Specialist as instrumental to the success of the engagements, noting that the “great hospitality” praised by stakeholders was directly attributable to this specialised training.

● Advancing Global Health Priorities (TB vaccine roadmap): Genesis supported the National Department of Health (NDOH) in hosting a G20 pre-meeting on “Closing the TB Detection Gap,” and a high-level G20 Health Ministers’ side event focused on TB vaccine financing and case finding. These engagements were critical in securing national consensus on the TB vaccine roadmap. Prof Norbet Ndjeka (Chief Director: TB Control & Management) described the engagement as a “major success” that “achieved the intention” of the Department, noting that the Genesis team “ exceeded expectations” in managing a high- pressure environment.

Our experience and skills in this project included:

● Strategic advisory

● Government support

● Programme management

● Event coordination and management

● Stakeholder engagement

● Agile and adaptive partnership

● Technical expertise

Genesis Analytics serves as a trusted implementation partner for this investment, leveraging our regional expertise to bridge the gap between the Foundation’s strategic priorities and the South African government’s operational needs.

Our role extended beyond logistics to strategic advisory, acting as an agile extension of the Foundation to navigate complex stakeholder ecosystems. This ability ensures that the Foundation’s support is both responsive and impactful. Ultimately, our work ensures that South Africa’s G20 Presidency leaves a lasting legacy of robust political dialogue and strengthened health systems.
