Support to increase most-favoured poultry tariffs

Genesis was commissioned by the South African Poultry Association (SAPA) to support its application to the International Trade Administration Commission (ITAC) to increase most-favoured nation (MFN) tariffs on five frozen poultry products: whole birds, carcasses, boneless cuts, offal and bone-in portions.

The project team’s input focused on assisting SAPA to define the correct methodology for assessing the impact of the proposed tariff increases on retail prices, as well as on estimating what these prices would be.

The team’s work debunked various claims made by poultry importers as to the effects of the tariff increase and the application was successful.
