Strategic planning precedes foreign bank entry into Ethiopia
Genesis was commissioned by the Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE) to conduct an analysis focusing on strategic planning for the anticipated entry of foreign banks into the Ethiopian market and the impact of digital transition in banking.
The assignment involved a thorough assessment of the evolving landscape of payment systems, the ramifications of digital disruption, and the impact of mobile money on the traditional banking business.
Our team benchmarked the bank against national and regional competitors. We examined how different banking markets are being disrupted by digital innovation and the way this affects their competitive advantage.
The assignment required assessing changes in the operating environment and analysing the opportunities and threats presented by this transformation for Ethiopia's banking sector, specifically for the CBE. The analysis also considered the potential advantages that foreign banks may hold over their local counterparts.
The output of the project was the delivery of a workshop for the executive committee of the bank.
