Review of govt's infrastructure plan for big business

Genesis was retained by the client to conduct a detailed review of the National Infrastructure Plan of South Africa and to assess which of the government’s strategic infrastructure projects would lend themselves to private sector participation.

The assignment entailed reviewing a long list of government projects (about 150) across a number of sectors, including rail, road, energy, water, ICT, health, education and agriculture.

Particular attention was paid to the Waterberg region where new rail, power and water projects are being proposed.

A report was prepared for big business on ways to engage with the Presidential Infrastructure Coordinating Commission (PICC) with specific recommendations on priority projects that would be amenable to private sector participation. A number of PPP models were explored for the most promising projects.
