Research on sharing credit information in Kenya

FSD Kenya commissioned Genesis Analytics to study current and future effects of sharing information on credit in Kenya.

The study detailed the macroeconomic context that led to its current structure. Following this, an analysis of market usage considering requests for reports, awareness initiatives run by CIS Kenya and Tatua Centre disputes addressed were highlighted.

Interviews with credit regulators, credit reference bureaus and financial service providers documented their perspectives and interactions with the mechanism. From the interviews the Genesis team collated the main recurring themes relating to the regulatory structure, market usage, data submissions and awareness, offering solutions.

Genesis held a workshop with all the major stakeholders to gather industry-wide consensus on the main constraints. The insights were incorporated in the final report to CIS Kenya and FSD Kenya.
