Probe of a MTN-Telkom network sharing agreement

Genesis was retained by the Competition Commission to assist in an investigation into a proposed mobile infrastructure sharing arrangement between MTN and Telkom Mobile.

The project team used an analytical approach to assess the complex proposal, which raised equally complex economic questions. The team also set out to understand how the anti-competitive effects of the agreement might be mitigated, while still retaining the efficiencies.

The parties ultimately abandoned the proposed agreement, which was prohibited by the commission.
