Objection to a fourth casino licence for Gaborone

Genesis was commissioned by Sun International to provide an assessment of whether the issuing of a fourth casino licence in Gaborone would be likely to result in concrete pro-competitive benefits.

This was in response to a new licence application to the Botswana Casino Control Board for an additional casino licence in Gaborone and the claim that this would increase competition to the benefit of consumers.

Using our experience in the gaming and casino markets, the Genesis project team provided a coherent outline of how competition works in these markets. Its expert economic report included an analysis of why any competitive effects were likely to be limited to parts of the market where competition already existed in Gaborone.

No licence has been issued to date.
