Joining forces to fund climate adaptation in SA

Genesis Analytics, in collaboration with Nedlac and South Africa's Presidential Climate Commission, has embarked on an exciting mission to pave the way for innovative adaptation financing mechanisms in South Africa. The goal is to not only make good business sense but also to foster greater private sector participation by leveraging public sector financing and catalysing additional private investment.

Our journey involves an extensive literature review and desktop study to identify gaps in existing adaptation financing mechanisms and unveil untapped opportunities. 

The final report will utilise a “traffic-light” system, categorising adaptation financing mechanisms by sector: “green” for those needed, “orange” for those requiring improvement, and “red” for missing financial instruments crucial for climate adaptation. Collaboration will be key, as we host three expert workshops involving stakeholders from the government, private and public sectors to validate and enhance our findings. Ultimately, the report will provide innovative adaptation financing recommendations to foster positive change and sustainable growth in South Africa.
