Investment case tackles stunting in Lesotho

Genesis played a role in addressing Lesotho’s significant malnutrition challenges by collaborating with UNICEF and the Lesotho government to develop a comprehensive investment case for the ambitious Lesotho Food and Nutrition Strategy and Action Plan for 2019 to 2023.

This multisectoral plan encompasses direct and indirect nutrition programmes as well as governance-related activities. These require substantial financial commitments from the government.

We developed a comprehensive investment case to scale up the cost-effective nutrition interventions outlined in the plan. Our efforts included a detailed costing exercise, a cost-benefit and cost-of-inaction analysis, and the identification of system bottlenecks. By analysing various coverage and scale-up scenarios, we aimed to guide decisions about resource allocation and ensure the most effective strategies for improving nutritional outcomes.

Our outputs included a robust investment case report, district-specific briefs and strategic recommendations. These tools enabled Lesotho to secure funding, prioritise nutrition investments and make informed decisions throughout the budget cycle.
