Helping Mongolia increase its financial resilience to disasters

Genesis was contracted to develop a Disaster Risk Financing (DRF) Strategy and Action Plan to increase the financial resilience of the Government of Mongolia.

This included a baseline DRF assessment of current financing and insurance tools, DRF governance system and legal framework. We also delivered capacity-building activities and training programmes on DRF for various stakeholders.

Genesis’ input was part of a larger project run by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and Mongolia’s National Emergency Management Agency. Our work supported the ADB’s implementation of the Technical Assistance (TA) “Strengthening Capacity on Disaster Risk Assessment, Reduction and Transfer Instruments in Mongolia”.

The TA was expected to result in replicable, evidence-based processes and tools for DRM that would enable dynamic management of existing and emerging disaster risks. A joint venture between ICEM Asia and PWC India in association with Environ LLC is providing TA for the implementation of the project.
