Helping healthcare group track ESG impact in West Africa

Genesis Analytics partnered with TLG Pharma, a healthcare organisation operating in French West Africa and other challenging markets, to develop a bespoke ESG impact and risk management framework. This has enabled TLG Pharma to monitor and improve its performance in terms of environmental, social and governance aspects.

The West African region is severely healthcare underserved and particularly vulnerable to counterfeit drugs and their effects on communities. Swedfund, a bilateral Development Finance Institution, is dedicated to combating poverty by investing in and cultivating sustainable businesses in challenging markets. Among Swedfund's portfolio companies is TLG Pharma, which focuses on enhancing access to life-saving medical services in French West Africa and other geographies with limited availability of high-quality healthcare.

The project demonstrated the importance of TLG Pharma’s ongoing efforts to track its socio-economic and environmental impacts in the region in which it operates. Our research showed that TLG Pharma’s operations create a significant positive impact in the French West Africa region, not only by providing access to affordable, good quality healthcare but also by creating employment opportunities, uplifting communities through Corporate Social Responsibility and driving economic growth. By nature of operating in the pharmaceutical industry and in its various geographies, TLG Pharma’s business also faces a number of ESG risks, which our co-created framework helps to track and mitigate.

All of this was designed taking into account global best practice as well as the perspectives of donor, investor and organisation to produce an ESG risk and impact framework able to meet the objectives of all key stakeholders.
