Genesis tests sustainabilty of renewable energy prices
Genesis was retained by a leading multinational power producer to assess the sustainability of proposed renewable energy prices, as well as their impact on the cost of electricity generation in South Africa.
The client expressed concern that renewable energy prices may not be sustainable in the medium to long term if they were to have a significant impact on electricity tariffs.
The report assessed the likely financial consequences to Eskom and electricity users generally from the generation of renewable energy under the IPP programme.
The client’s bid for a renewable energy IPP contract with the Department of Energy was ultimately successful.
