Genesis counts benefits of Maseru managing water loss

The Climate Resilient Infrastructure Development Facility (CRIDF) conducted initial investigations into the possibility of supporting the water demand management performance of the Water and Sewerage Company (WASCO) in Lesotho.

This was done to reduce losses from the reticulation system and reduce extractions from the Caledon River, which forms the western border of Lesotho with South Africa.

Through CRIDF, Genesis was contracted to undertake a financial analysis of the potential costs and benefits in isolating a water demand management (WDM) zone in Maseru and quantifying the potential revenue benefits from reducing water losses.

The project was a pilot study to build a business case for WASCO to further reduce water losses across four more WDM zones to eventually implement the interventions throughout Maseru.
