Exploring Islamic bank opportunities in Malawi

Genesis was commissioned by a company in Malawi to provide a high-level overview of the feasibility of setting up a Shariah-compliant bank in the country.

We provided an introduction to banking and an overview of Islamic banking models contrasted with traditional banking models. 

The team provided an overview of the state of banking in Malawi and sized the market. This entailed estimating the appetite for Islamic banking in the country. We then built a high-level financial model by looking at the typical dynamics between different components of an Islamic bank’s balance sheet.

The findings were presented at a two-day workshop in Malawi.
