Expert testimony in ship-repair company acquisition

Genesis was retained by Investec Private Equity to provide expert economic evidence and testimony on its acquisition of a minority stake in a ship-repair company, RJ Southey, given another ship-repair investment it held already.

The project team was able to use its experience in the analysis of partial shareholdings to provide an assessment of the potential effects of the transaction.

This focused on the potential impact on the incentives of each ship repair company, as well as on the ability of Investec to influence each company's behaviour. The team was also able to clarify the relevant geographic and service markets for ship-repair services, which are highly differentiated and specialised.
