Economic advice for major automotive parts merger

Genesis was commissioned by the parties to assess a merger between Midas and Imperial in the automotive spare parts industry.

The project team provided a critical assessment of the design of the customer survey developed and used by the Competition Commission as part of its investigation process, as well as of the merger simulation model, which was also used as evidence in its assessment of the merger.

Resulting from this and from the project team’s own analysis, Genesis concluded that the merger would not result in a substantial lessening of competition.

The merger was unconditionally approved by the Competition Tribunal.
