Nigeria study sheds light on emerging technologies

The management team of Microsoft Africa Development Centre wanted to understand how best to respond to the problems faced by Africa by building innovative solutions on the Microsoft platform.

A three-step approach was followed :

The first step was to assess the structure of the Nigerian economy, primarily to understand the overall macroeconomic trends in economic growth, population, formal employment and economic sector analysis. This analysis formed the basis for a deep dive into select sectors of the economy.

The second step was to analyse the application of emerging technologies in those sectors, mainly by understanding the value chain of each. This was a sector overview and included looking at the regulatory and startup landscape, digitisation within those sectors and emerging technology-use cases.

The third step was to identify the key players and their service offerings in chosen sectors. This analysis also covered case studies of current utilisation of emerging technologies among key players.
