Charting digital future of savings groups in Rwanda

Genesis was commissioned by the National Bank of Rwanda (BNR) to develop a national roadmap for the digitalisation of savings and credit groups there.

The team conducted an evaluation of the savings and credit group landscape in Rwanda and examined the country’s ongoing digitalisation interventions. Our primary research tools involved key stakeholder interviews and focus group discussions, while secondary research entailed reviewing key government and regulator publications.

The outcome of the project was a report detailing key findings and recommendations. These outlined the actions required to fully digitalise savings groups in Rwanda by 2027. Our deliverables, among other developments, informed BNR on the licensing of fintechs and the digitalising of savings groups.
