Assessing future direction of financial regulation

Genesis was engaged by a large financial services firm to advise on the future involvement of the government in financial markets, including healthcare finance, savings and pensions, ESG issues, tax, and privacy laws.

The client needed to understand the likelihood and shape of policies like national health insurance, national social security fund, and protection of information legislation, and how this would impact the business, plus a strategy of engagement in advocacy. This required a mix of economic, financial, legal and political skills.

The work produced a regulatory risk framework that is still in use today in the company, and led to an active engagement with the National Treasury and the Financial Services Board that established lines of communication on new policy and improved working relationships.
