Our health team organised a satellite entitled, What Will It Take to Reach the Fast Track Prevention Targets: What, Who and How, on behalf of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

Parker Fitzgerald, a global leader in risk management consulting, has signed an agreement to work with Joburg economic-based firm Genesis Analytics to grow their work in the Africa market.

Genesis Analytics is opening a health practice after buying Anansi Health Consulting.The Health practice will start on 1 February 2016 as the eighth practice in Genesis, which is the largest economics­ based consultancy in Africa. Anansi Health Consulting is led by Dr Saul Johnson, a well ­known epidemiologist in the health development field.

The Department of Trade and Industry (dti) is actively stepping up its support to inventors to position South Africa as the continent’s leader in industrial innovation. With Nigeria and Kenya hot on South Africa’s heels, the dti recognised the urgency of driving new technologies and after 13 years decided to evaluate the impact of their Support Programme for Industrial Innovation (SPII). Between 2000 and 2013 SPII provided R623-million of funding to 401 projects, which have directly created or retained approximately 3000 permanent jobs (ie at the cost of more than R200,000 per job)

A consortium led by Genesis Analytics has been appointed to lead a project that plans to build hostels for 34,040 students in partnership with the private sector to alleviate the accommodation crisis at five Kenyan universities and colleges.

Rapid expansion of academic programmes in Kenya has put institutions of higher learning — currently admitting nearly 70,000 new students a year — under immense pressure to provide additional accommodation space.

Genesis Partner Alyna Wyatt was elected to the South African Monitoring and Evaluation Association board in November 2015, and has recently been appointed treasurer.

The M&E team has won two National Evaluation Plan awards from the South African Presidency in recognition of evaluations that it did for the Department of Trade and Industry (the dti).

As part of a strategy assignment, Genesis Analytics has completed benchmarking the operations of the Central Securities Clearing and Settlement Organisation (CSCS) in Nigeria. 

Genesis Analytics has just completed a market analysis of eleven African countries for the financial services division of a major South African furniture and household appliances retailer in order to support its country entry strategy.
