The Health practice at Genesis Analytics is expanding its expertise in health finance, public financial management and economics with the appointment of two highly experienced consultants.

Steve Cohen and Carl Schütte, who ran Strategic Development Consultants in KZN for the past 20 years, have decades of experience between them, working across the African continent applying cost and economic analysis to support decision making and strengthened public financial management.

Head of the practice, Dr Saul Johnson said: “Carl and Steve bring extensive experience of supporting the financing of health programmes across Africa. At a time when many countries are facing deep cuts to donor funding, their skills and experience will be invaluable in helping countries navigate this new reality “.

The Health practice at Genesis has, since it started in 2016, developed a strong portfolio of public health projects. This includes supporting the Department of Health’s male circumcision programme, delivering technical support to HIV programmes across East and Southern Africa for UNAIDS, and conducting a large and rigorous evaluation of NHI Phase 1 in South Africa.

“The addition of Steve and Carl will allow us to build on Genesis’ 20 years of economics consulting across the continent, and add the critical area of health economics and public finance to the skill and experience we can provide to our clients,” said Johnson.
