Dr Thomas Ofem

Senior Technical Adviser (Health)

Thomas Ofem is a senior technical adviser in West and Central Africa for the Health practice.

He is experienced in designing, implementing and evaluating public health programmes, among them HIV prevention, treatment and care, family planning and reproductive health, and programming for adolescent girls and young women.

Thomas's professional interest is in creating an enabling environment for healthy behaviours and improved health literacy through communication, community and stakeholder mobilisation, and capacity building. Thomas led the teams that designed and deployed the Heart2Heart campaign in Nigeria to create demand for HIV testing and the Moyo ndi Mpamba campaign in Malawi to create demand for integrated health services and improve the lives of Malawians.

Thomas has extensive experience leading multi-professional and multicultural teams, as well as managing USAID-funded programmes at country levels.

Thomas has a PhD in Health Education and Promotion from Walden University, a master’s in Public Health from the University of Liverpool, England and master’s in Mass Communication from the Enugu State University of Science and Technology, Nigeria. Thomas also has a Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Physiology from the University of Calabar, Nigeria.
