Nicholas Mwenda

Manager (Human Development)

Nicholas Mwenda is a manager in the Human Development practice.

He is a health economist with expertise in health financing and policy. His professional journey in healthcare has taken him across Africa and the Middle East.

Nicholas understands first-hand the importance of health financing mechanisms, having worked at the primary care level as a pharmacist, a superintendent of a rural hospital and a health administrator at the subnational level in Kenya.

His international experience includes the delivery of many assignments and projects in health financing and health policy, working with multinational donor implementing organisations, governments and consultancy firms in the region.

Nicholas supports health systems in the developing world by contributing to the building of health financing mechanisms tailored to local, national and subnational contexts. His approach is informed by the insights of people who work in, pay for and benefit from these health systems.

He has a master’s in Health Economics and Health Policy from the University of Birmingham, UK, an MBA in Healthcare Management from the Strathmore Business School, Kenya, and a bachelor’s in Pharmacy from the University of Nairobi. He is a registered pharmacist in Kenya, a founding member of the Health Economics Association of Kenya, and a member of the African Health Economics and Policy Association.
