Climate and disaster risk financing


We work with governments, donors and private businesses to increase the flows of climate finance from higher to lower income countries, in fostering the role of the private sector in climate finance and in better preparedness of societies to address the climate change emergency proactively and adequately.

    Building Southern Africa's Resilience to Natural Resource Shocks

    Genesis is the long-term monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEL) partner on the Resilient Waters Programme, a USAID's five-year programme in the Okavango and Limpopo river basins.


    Evaluating ILO job creation project for Syrian refugees and Jordanians

    Genesis conducted the final evaluation of an ILO's project to support Syrian refugees' and Jordanians' access to “green work” in the agriculture sector using an employment-intensive method. Its goal was to promote better living conditions for Syrian refugees and Jordanians through increased decent work in the agricultural sector and an improved environment.


    Early flood forecasting system for Incomati Basin

    Genesis was engaged as the financial and economic adviser on a three-year project to support a holistic flood risk mitigation system in the Incomati Basin. Our work was integral in establishing the need for an early warning flood forecasting system (EWFFS) and its requirements for financial sustainability.


    Innovative solutions to SA water security challenge

    The Innovation Hub Management Company’s Green Economy Unit engaged Genesis to identify potential opportunities that exist for SMMEs in the Gauteng city region to contribute to the growth of the South African economy by providing innovative solutions to the water-security challenge.


    Digital-credit scoring tool to expand credit to MSMEs

    Genesis has proposed the development of a digital-credit scoring tool for micro, small and medium enterprise lending in Zimbabwe. The tool will be developed to enable financial service providers to lend to previously excluded entrepreneurs and MSMEs across a number of economic sectors using alternative data and non-traditional sources of data.


    Climate risk assessment of Tanzanian dam project

    Genesis provided support for the climate change risk assessment and the financing strategy of the Kikonge Hydropower Project in Tanzania.


    Water for livelihoods in KAZA transfrontier area

    Genesis was retained to support CRIDF in their work to improve the livelihoods of local communities within and around the Kavango-Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation Area (KAZA TFCA).


    Seed project increases Zimbabwean farmers' yields by 20%

    Genesis was appointed by Vuna to work across a number of stakeholders to coordinate the implementation of a community-level seed production and distribution model in semi-arid districts of Zimbabwe.


    Review of plan to grow skills in energy sector

    Genesis Analytics was contracted by the Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI) to conduct a programme evaluation of the relevance, effectiveness, expected impact and long-term sustainability of the Sustainable Energy for Economic Development (SEED) programme, which is funded by the Rockefeller Foundation and Virgin Unite.

    Green economy

    Current economic models and growth projections are limited, given the prevalence of poverty, inequality, environmental degradation and impacts of climate change. 

    Promotion of green growth and sustainable development is envisioned to address socioeconomic disparities through a focus on investment, infrastructure development, employment and skills development.


    Human development

    We work with governments and private businesses to build human capital by improving education and health outcomes, ensuring a decent standard of living for all. Our focus sectors are health, education, social protection and WASH (water, sanitation and hygiene). 

    Our core areas of expertise are financing (public finance management, sector financing and expenditure performance, private sector investment), mixed service delivery systems (private and public sector) and adaptive social service systems.


    Monitoring, evaluation and learning

    We work to maximise the social and economic impact of development efforts. As a trusted provider of monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEL) services we combine our deeply rooted understanding of the African context with our extensive experience in qualitative and quantitative monitoring and evaluation (M&E) methods to assess progress, measure value creation, and facilitate internal and external learning.
