Angela Euston-Brown
Analyst (Primary Data Intelligence)
Angela Euston-Brown is an Analyst in the Primary Data Intelligence Unit, based in Cape Town, South Africa.
She has extensive experience in labour economics research, quantitative research in education, spatial analysis and teaching. She specialises in education system challenges, leveraging rigorous research and data analysis in Stata, R and GQIS to drive social impact.
Prior to joining Genesis, she worked as a research assistant for three international macro-economists investigating whether inequality in South Africa remains high due to spatial, financial and educational segregation imposed from apartheid. In this role, Angela developed GIS skills, by linking census and household survey data to maps of South African townships. She also worked as a senior and further education and training phase mathematics teacher at Canons Creek Independent School in Cape Town, gaining unique insight into national teaching curricula and the lived experience of teachers - knowledge that proves invaluable for education projects.
At Genesis, Angela has conducted quantitative research using advanced econometric methods. She has contributed to rigorous evaluations including:
Assessing a Jolly Phonics programme's impact in Namibia
Developing an outcomes-based funding framework for South Africa's ECD sector
Validating a quality assessment tool for ECD centres
Her work helps optimise programmes, strengthen evidence-based policymaking and support clients in achieving measurable outcomes. Angela frequently works across sub-Saharan Africa, focusing on early childhood development and foundational learning, with expertise spanning quasi-experimental impact evaluations, tool validation, and market landscape analyses.
Angela holds a Master of Commerce in cEconomics from Stellenbosch University, where she worked with the Research on Socio-Economic Policy (RESEP) unit, analysing education administrative data. She also holds a BCom hHonours in eEconomics, and a BSc in Environmental and Geographical sScience, Applied Statistics and Economics from the University of Cape Town. She has obtained a postgraduate certificate in Senior Phase and Further Education and Training Teaching from the University of Cape Town. Angela is also a Jakes Gerwel Fellow.
