Greening the City of Cape Town’s investments

APEX is a climate-smart cities platform developed by the International Finance Corporation (IFC) to help cities make better decisions about the future of their built environment as well as their energy, transportation, water and waste systems by prioritising policy and investment options.

The City of Cape Town (CoCT) is one of the key cities involved in this exciting and forward-looking programme. Through this process, the CoCT will be able to estimate the future greenhouse gas and resource impacts of the current investment pipeline. It will also help prioritise investment as well as policy and planning measures to support low-carbon, green and resource-efficient outcomes for the City.

Genesis will play a key supporting role to the IFC APEX team by reviewing the APEX data inputs that have been collected so far for the CoCT’s Green Investment Pipeline Analysis. This will involve assessing the financial base and city assumptions considered to determine the financing options for the investment pipeline; advising on the identification of key stakeholders who could play a role in the implementation phase; and reviewing potential financing mechanisms under consideration.

We will provide rigorous analysis to come up with feasible recommendations for strengthening the analysis, the pipeline and next steps for the CoCT’s APEX pipeline.
