Design of social impact bond for SME development

Genesis partnered with the Bertha Centre for Social Innovation at the University of Cape Town and Social Finance UK to test the viability of the social-impact bond model in the field of SME development.

The project helped to launch and socialise the idea of an SIB - the first time the idea had been tested in South Africa.

The viability assessment found that an SIB would not be the appropriate mechanism for SME development funding and identified other areas where an SIB would be more appropriate.
