At the helm of fund to support ecosystem resilience in Okavango

Genesis was appointed as the interim manager of the Cubango-Okavango River Basin (CORB) Fund, a financing mechanism that aims to help Angola, Botswana and Namibia to tackle social, economic and ecological threats facing the CORB ecosystem.

Specifically, Genesis is supporting the implementation of the CORB Fund action plan and roadmap under the strategic guidance of the fund’s Board of Directors and its Advisory Group. Our services include:

  • Coordination across the Board of Directors, Members and Advisory Group.
  • Identification of and coordination with potential funders.
  • Stakeholder engagement and proof of concept for the fund.
  • Administrative and compliance tasks to ensure that the fund remains registered and is fully compliant with Botswana law.

This project falls under the Resilient Waters programme which is working to build more resilient and water-secure Southern African communities and ecosystems through improved management of transboundary natural resources and increased access to safe drinking water and sanitation services.

The Resilient Waters programme is supporting the Permanent Okavango River Basin Water Commission (OKACOM) established in 1994 by Angola, Botswana and Namibia. The programme, among other parties, has supported OKACOM with establishing the CORB Fund.

The fund is designed as a sustainable, accountable, independent and transparent financing mechanism. It is expected to raise long-term revenue streams that will support sustainable resources use as well as livelihood improvement activities in the CORB, thereby ensuring ecosystem resilience and ecosystem services delivery to future generations.
