Tlhalefang Moeletsi

Manager (Evaluation for Development)

Tlhalefang is a manager in the Evaluation for Development practice. His focus is on enterprise development and job creation. He is based in South Africa.

Prior to joining Genesis, he worked as a consultant at the World Bank in the Finance, Competitiveness & Innovation global practice. Focusing on issues of access to finance, the digital economy, private sector development, competitiveness, innovation, entrepreneurship, labour markets and firm dynamics, he contributed to various analytical and policy advisory projects in Africa and the Middle East. 

Through his career, Tlhalefang has consistently demonstrated adaptability, versatility, deep skills in applied econometrics, compelling story telling and the ability to conjure solutions that are grounded in multi-disciplinary approaches, creativity and evidence.

He graduated with a master’s in Economic Science from Wits University. Tlhalefang has lectured at Wits and served in several research roles including at the African Microeconomic Research Unit and the International Monetary Fund. He won the Nedbank and Old Mutual Budget Speech Competition and the United Nations Special Youth Prize. In 2020, Tlhalefang was selected for South Africa’s Emerging Creative Programme for his leather manufacturing company called Mebala. He currently serves the company as a non-executive director with the aim of creating quality manufacturing jobs for Africa’s youth.
