  • Projects involving donor advice and program design: back
Project: The design of the African Enterprise Challenge Fund (AECF) (2006/07).
Funding: Commissioned by DIFD (UK Department for International Development).
Overview: Genesis Analytics are the lead consultants in designing the AECF which focuses on agribusiness and financial services on a regional basis across Africa and seeks to apply donor funding by awarding competitive grants to for-profit ventures that can illustrate their pro-poor impact. The project spans two consecutive phases:
- Phase l (now complete) focused on the major design issues and on lesson
learning from other challenge funds, and resulted in an agreed set of narrower
  design parameters.
- Phase ll (underway) involves detailed aspects of design,
  governance and management arrangements.

Project: Improving the Kenyan Investment Climate Support Programme (2005).
Funding: DIFD.
Overview: Genesis Analytics were commissioned to perform intensive consultation and provide strategic inputs for the design of a new programme to support the investment climate in Kenya. The project consisted of four workstreams, each with its own deliverable: a high-level diagnostic assessment of Kenya's investment climate; an assessment of the political economy and institutional environment; an assessment of the donor environment and international best practice; and programme design.
