Genesis looks at case to recycle water for KZN coastal city

19 June 2017

Genesis Analytics has been appointed the lead financial transaction adviser in a consortium of four companies tasked by the City of uMhlathuze’s municipality to assess the feasibility study of re-using wastewater and associated by-products.

The study specifically explores the viability of procuring a public-private partnership (PPP) for the delivery mechanism in re-using treated water. If such a PPP is found to be a viable and desirable solution, Genesis will assist uMhlathuze to procure the PPP.

Currently, the wastewater discharges into sea through marine outfalls and into nearby river sources at a time when there is increased pressure on potable water sources. Genesis' role is to help the city to make informed strategic decisions on how it can efficiently and affordably re-use wastewater by involving the private sector.

Genesis Analytics, as the lead financial transaction adviser in this assignment, will determine the affordability and bankability of the preferred technical solution and service delivery option for the project. Genesis will also assess whether the solution provides value for money so that the uMhlathuze municipality finds the best way to deliver its services.
