12 August 2016

Genesis Analytics has been awarded a one-year contract by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to support the Medical Male Circumcision Programme in South Africa.

Medical male circumcision (MMC) is a critical prevention intervention tool in the global fight against the spread of HIV. According the World Health Organisation, it has been proven to reduce the risk of female-to-male sexual transmission of HIV by approximately 60%.The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation supports the MMC Programme in South Africa.

South Africa aims to circumcise 4.3 million men by the end of 2016. Statistics released at the 21st International AIDS Conference indicated that approximately 2.3 million men had been circumcised in South Africa by the end of 2015. So the country has some way to go to reach its target

In order to accelerate MMC, the Health practice has been assigned the task of assessing demand generation activities in various districts in Gauteng, Mpumalanga and KwaZulu-Natal. This will involve landscaping of MMC stakeholders in the country and an in-depth analysis of districts’ readiness to collaborate in the MMC programme.
