  • Examples of recent work: back
Project: The contribution, costs and development opportunities of the Forestry, Timber, Pulp and Paper Industries in Southern Africa (2005)
Client: Government / Industry Forum: the departments of Trade and Industry, Water Affairs and Forestry, Environmental Affairs and Tourism / the Paper Manufacturers Association of South Africa (PAMSA), Forestry South Africa.
Overview: Genesis Analytics provided key inputs on the economic, social and environmental roles and impacts of the industries in South Africa; on the appropriate policy and regulatory environment; and on the wider implications for the sub-continent. The study made strategic recommendations for key renewable resources which covered
- the net contributions of plantation forestry, pulp and paper, woodchip exports,
sawmilling, timber board, mining timber, treated poles and charcoal
- discussed the opportunities for and potential impact of further development in the
Eastern Cape, Kwazulu Natal and Southern Africa in general
- examined the impact of land reform on the forestry value chain.

Project: Primary research into gold beneficiation in South Africa (2007)
Client: Anglogold Ashanti Limited and Goldfields Limited
Overview: Genesis Analytics was commissioned to conduct an analysis of the gold value chain in South Africa, focusing on the downstream industries which were largely unmapped before the project. Desktop research was conducted along with over 60 industry interviews. The data was collated, analysed and published in an updated Gold in South Africa handbook, which produced sufficiently robust data on the beneficiation industry to start mapping trends.
