Extractive Industries
Extractive industries are a substantial component of many African economies, but do not always foster growth and development. In fact, unless handled carefully, extractive industries can undermine stable development and democracy. In certain instances, extractive industries have contributed to social conflict, civil war and institutionalized corruption. We understand the complex political-economic factors that underpin the contribution of extractive industries in emerging economies in Africa, as well as the issues that need to be addressed to ensure that the potential is realized both at the project and sector/policy level.
