Access to Financial Services
Expanding or facilitating access to financial services is a means of integrating poorer households, individuals and informal businesses into the economy. This is important not only for the economic development of these households, but also for the efficient intermediation of funds within the general economy. 'Financial services' covers micro-credit (for personal or business purposes), savings, transactional banking, remittance services and insurance products.

We have considerable expertise in supporting and influencing regulatory reform to improve access to financial services. We have consulted throughout Southern Africa (South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, Lesotho, Swaziland, several other SADC countries, as well as Kenya and Uganda) and globally ( Pakistan, Indonesia, Mexico, India, the Philippines and Brazil).

Our work involves developing a thorough understanding of the various components of the financial system and the way these interact, and devising strategies to improve access of low income earners to products and services relevant to their needs.

Our Clients
Our clients include donor and donor-funded entities, regulators and national departments.

We have completed assignments for the FinMark Trust, the National Treasury, the Financial Services Board (FSB), the Banking Association (BASA) and others.

International clients include the FIRST Initiative, a consortium of international donors including GTZ, the IDRC, the Commonwealth Secretariat, the SADC Secretariat, the Consultative Group to Assist the Poor (CGAP) and the UK Department for International Development (DFID), for which we have undertaken many projects.
